Filipinos in Germany
As of December 2019, there were 62.000 Filipino citizens living in Germany. Many of them came to Germany years ago to work as nurses or as seamen on German vessels. Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), mainly those working on German-registered vessels, sent a total of 650,000,000 USD in remittances to the Philippines in 2019.
A large proportion of Filipinos in Germany are married to Germans. In December 2019, this proportion of Filipinos married to Germans amounted to 45%. At the same time, 82% of the Filipino population in Germany was female. Filipinos are relatively evenly spread across Germany’s population centers.
In general, Filipinos are very well integrated into German society and many have become German citizens. Every year, about 750 Filipino citizens acquire German citizenship through naturalization, the majority of whom are women.
